18. Sansa’s Raven dress (Season 4)

Ah yes, the famous “Darth Sansa” dress. This was, at least when she appeared in it in her last scene for Season 4, the dress in which fans thought Sansa had finally come into her own, neither wearing the “southron” look she adopted in Season 1, nor the “northern” one she switched to in a silent act of rebellion, post marriage to Tyrion. And yet, you can see the influences of the women she knew before. Remember how I talked about Margaery’s strong shoulders? Exact same motif. Remember, Sansa knows at this point that the Tyrells took down Joffrey. She[‘s paying respect.

Then there’s the matter of those raven feathers. Clapton said she wanted the dress to look like something Sansa could have made herself, and there are plenty of ravens in the Eyrie. But we should remember that ravens represent something else: the warging and mysticism of her brother Bran. Though the show has only shown Bran warging of the Stark family, the books make it clear that others in the family have the ability as well, and warging is in the blood. Animals we see warged into on the regular, other than wolves? Ravens. I do not think it is a coincidence here that Sansa is dressed to reference that animal, especially since she was the first to lose her wolf.
