21. Daenerys’ Riding Outfit (Season 3)

It doesn’t get any more simple yet regal than the riding outfit Dany wears throughout most of her time on the road in Season 3. There’s a reason this has become *the* go to look for Dany cosplayers. At first glance it actually doesn’t seem that impressive, until you get up close and realize the amount of dragon scaling detail that’s going into those shoulders. Dany stands out against the background of what is left of her Khalasar. She also stands out against the slaves she frees, the soldiers who follow her, and the lands she travels though. Then there’s the fact that she’s not actually wearing a dress, though the cut of the bodice certainly suggests it is from the waist up. In reality, she’s wearing pants.

It’s hard to imagine her in a red or black riding outfit that would stand out so dramatically. Though the point of not having her in House Targaryen colors here is because she’s not come into her own in that role yet, the blue sets her apart visually. The blue represents her loyalty to Drogo and his  Dothraki riders. Though she wears other shades of blue throughout Seasons 2 through 4, this outfit is the exact same blue shade of Khal Drogo’s painted stripes. She is “Khalessi.”  Plus, the blue works really well with the wig, and it stands out when accessorized with black leather pieces. It’s always good to be versatile.
