23. Joffrey’s Royal Brocades (Season 3)

Joffrey in his prime, is a snazzy dresser. Yes, he was the ultimate bratty villain, a spoiled little rich kid with a twisted psychopath soul, but damn did he know how to dress. This is peacocking on the grandest scale, the sumptuous fabrics, cut ito fit like a glove. It is a lesson in how to look smashing without looking like one wants to be smashing. One simply is. The. King. Keep an eye on that brocade pattern, we’ll see it repeat in Cersei’s outfits down the line, especially once he passes away.

Like his mother, Joffrey wears the red and gold of House Lannister, instead of the gold and brown House Baratheon. The child may bear Robert’s name, but we all know he’s none of Robert’s blood, and the clothing reflects that. (It says volumes that after Joffrey passes away and Tommen becomes king, he doesn’t wear the Lannister colors, but goes back to his assumed father’s Baratheon palette of gold and brown.) But unlike Cersei, who goes from pink shades to crimson, Joffrey’s reds are far darker. It’s a extraordinarily dark red, darker than anything we see even Tywin or Tyrion wear. It’s so dark, it could be blood. I suppose that’s the best way to hide the stains.
