26. Ellaria Sand at the Purple Wedding (Season 4)
*This* is what I expected to see women wearing down in Dorne. If only the production had stayed with this sort of slim line, semi-festival Coachella look for the women in Dorne. It would not only have done Ellaria a favor, but also the Sand Snakes. One of the worst moments for them is in the Season 5 finale. They are put in gowns that match Myrcella, and they look ludicrous. This is so wrongheaded. This is their culture. They should look comfortable in the Dornish fashions. Myrcella should be the one having to adjust to the looser, less dressed, louche morals of Dorne. But of course, if they’d dressed Myrcella like this, she would have not even begun to look like the innocent Disney princess they wanted. So.
It’s so unfortunate. As a contrasting figure to the Lannisters, Tyrells and leftover Starks all done up in stuffed upright heavy brocades, Ellaria’s barely there get up was a couldn’t miss. Note again the strong shoulder motif for strong women. It’s more noticeable when she’s not wearing the hair chains later, when Oberyn duels the Mountain. But this look was a stellar standout that put her on the same footing as her lover, and should have defined what women wore in Dorne in Season 5.
