27. Myrcella’s Dornish Gowns (Season 5)
After the barely there looks sported by Obyern’s paramour Ellaria Sand (which will get to in a moment), let me tell you how confusing it was to head down to Dorne and find….Disney gowns. Yes, Disney gowns. Look at Myrcella (recast in Season 5 in order to look more like a Disney Princess) and tell me that you don’t see someone who could easily star in the live action remake of Disney’s “The Princess of Dorne.”
Now, I’m not arguing with the choice to put Dornish women in incredibly lightweight chiffon gowns after all the heavy brocades of the northern regions of Westeros. It’s quite the head-turner. But it’s not the look established by our female Dornish character the season before. Instead it was chosen because they were going for a certain star-crossed lover/romantic princess out of a fairy tale look. The gowns were still a visual break from the southron styles she wore before, which were carbon copies of her mother’s look. And they certainly looked like they came from a different culture in comparison to King’s Landing, one Myrcella clearly wholeheartedly adopted, along with her new prince. She was no longer her mother’s mini-me. Too bad for her. If she’d kept more Cersei inside, she might have been less trusting, and wound up less dead.
