6. Tina Fey’s “Guide to Workout Gear” for American Express

Tina Fey is an American treasure, no doubt about it. As a writer and comedian, she’s pretty much solidified herself as one of the funniest people alive. Case in point, how she can turned an average American Express commercial into a two-minute delight. It lifts your spirits and makes you feel a little bit smarter, as the best comedy should.

American Express has been partnering with Fey for quite some time. But the greatest ones are more recent, like “A Cheese Puff Binge” or “Doggie Shopping Spree“. The latter features Silicon Valley‘s Thomas Middleditch and the violently untrue line about a dog’s foot being cleaner than a person’s mouth (could not verify, though).

But Fey’s best American Express commercial is “Workout Gear,” which follows Fey on her shopping adventure as she invests in some — you guessed it — workout gear. The hilarity of the commercial stems from Fey’s commentary on yoga mats. (“Does it come in a California king?”) She also opines on those weird toe shoes. (“I can wear these on my trip to Middle Earth.”) And, of course, her made-up yoga positions, like the “splat!”

I don’t care if it’s books, television, or television commercials, if Tina Fey is doin’ it, it’s going to be funny.
