16 – Carry On – Norah Jones

Norah Jones’ sound apparently changed at some point in her career, but as someone who hasn’t listened to her much since “Come Away With Me” taught me that I didn’t have to blast Avril Lavigne at full volume to feel the full range of moodiness in the early 2000s, “Carry On” is a welcome return to her piano-centric jazz style. Her voice doesn’t seem to have changed much over the years, either. It’s still melodic and smooth, with just enough swing. Jones has mastered her genre over the years, and it definitely shows in “Carry On.”

You may not have heard Norah Jones’ summer songs yet. Her latest work is from her new album, Day Breaks, which is dropping in October. The album includes nine new songs and three covers (including a Duke Ellington cover, whee!). If “Carry On” is any indication, it may be a must-listen for nights of staying in, slow dancing, and good wine. For now, enjoy the lead single and its sweet, sentimental music video accompaniment.
