15 – Heathens – twenty one pilots

Why yes, thank you, twenty one pilots, I wanted to feel like life was a rotting pile of garbage this summer, and this song has done it for me yes. “Heathens” is from the official Suicide Squad album and certainly fits the part both in lyrics and sound.

But the fact remains that some days you just wake up feeling like that. Or maybe things really are awful, and if every summer song were sunshine and rainbows we all would put axes through our computer monitors. “Heathens” is haunting and pleading and tragic. It’s a good reminder during the season traditionally associated with joy and freedom of the darkness in everyone: the people we pass on the street and the people closest to us. Maybe that fact makes you want to burrito yourself into blankets and call it a day. Or maybe it’s comforting to know that everyone’s just as messed up as you. It’s okay. Everyone has those days.
