#10: “I See Fire” by Peter Hollens on “Signed & Unsigned” 2013

Peter Hollens is one of those YouTube stars that can mesmerize you into an hours-long spiral of a cappella vids. In case you haven’t heard of Peter Hollens, or seen ANY of his videos, he’s known for interesting arrangements of famous songs sung a cappella- that is, without instruments. To add to the allure, he also sings ALL the parts, recording each one individually then layering them one on top of another until the song flies. He’s not the only one to do this, and maybe not one of the first, but he’s one of the best, hands down.

Although “I See Fire” (from The Hobbit soundtrack) isn’t necessarily the most exciting, most up-tempo, or even most impressive cover, it’s good enough to give me chills and that’s always a sign of something special.
