Video game news in review: The biggest news from the week of October 25, 2024
It's a busy week for video game news all around, and there's no time to waste, so let's jump right to the most important thing this week...
Alan Wake 2's "The Lake House" DLC launches & anniversary updates
The second and final DLC for Alan Wake 2 officially launched on Tuesday. If you played June's Night Springs DLC and expect something similar... well, it's really creepy. It's definitely back to the survival horror the series is known for.
Remedy also gave some quality of life updates to Alan Wake 2 as the first anniversary of the game approaches. Some of the updates include a quick-turn function, inverting the x-axis, and haptic feedback enhancements. There's also some fun things you can toggle, like infinite ammo and infinite batteries, one-shot kills, and immortality.
Also if you purchased the deluxe edition of the game (which gets you the DLCs), you also get Alan Wake's outfit from the original Alan Wake and all its layers of glory.
Dungeons of Hinterberg update
This game kind of flew under the radar, but Dungeons of Hinterberg is a fun action-adventure/dungeon-crawler game that can be as cozy or as intense as you want to make it. It launched back in July and Microbird Games just announced the latest free update, which includes a new game plus, four new attack conduits, and even more outfits to buy.
Hatch Tales releases this week
If you're looking for a solid action platformer game, may I interest you in Limited Run Games' Hatch Tales: A Heroic Hookshot Adventure that released this week on Nintendo Switch? If it's been a while since you've played a platformer, then some of the levels might be a little tricky, but it's honestly pretty darn fun.
Ubisoft cancels Assassin's Creed: Shadows early access
To no one's surprise, Ubisoft has canceled the early access for Assassin's Creed: Shadows. This has also dropped the price of the collector's edition from $280 to $230. Shadows is slated to launch on February 14, 2025, but we'll have to wait and see if that gets delayed at all...again...
Netflix shutters its AAA gaming studio
Again... to probably no one's surprise, Netflix has shuttered its AAA gaming studio, Blue. No, the gaming studio has not released any games yet. They had former Overwatch executive producer Chacko Sonny on staff and were supposedly working on a AAA original IP, but nothing's ever been officially announced for it. And now, nothing will.
Gamers sign an NDA, post NDA-related things, are surprised when they get shut down by Nintendo
We didn't bring up any of that mysterious Nintendo testing that launched this week. Gamers were able to sign up to be part of it and had to sign an NDA to participate.
We all knew there would be players who would post things regardless of signing the NDA. But they shouldn't really be surprised when their accounts get shut down by Nintendo for leaking something they specifically signed an NDA for. Maybe they should actually stop and read what they're signing.
