Video game news slows a bit this week as we head into the heart of the holiday season. But that doesn't mean there's nothing to talk about this week! Let's take a look at what happened this past week.

Secret Level renewed for season 2

If you haven't had a chance yet to watch Amazon Prime's Secret Level animated series, you should make time. The episodes are short and pretty darn entertaining, even if you haven't played the video games the episode is centered around.

So it should come as no surprise that Amazon has renewed Secret Level for a second season. What video games might a second season include? Honestly... it could be anything, given how much of a scope this first season has in variety.

Speaking of television adaptations...

Pacific Drive gets a TV adaptation

Pacific Drive was nominated for Best Debut Indie at The Game Awards and was one of the cooler, more creative video games that came out this year. The game blends survival mechanics with a roguelite gameplay where your only companion is your car. You scavenge for resources, upgrade your car, and fight your way through (or around) anomalies in a crazy, atmospheric and creepy landscape.

Atomic Monster has acquired the rights to turn it into a TV show. It's definitely an interesting concept to adapt to TV and I feel like it can work really well.

Catly isn't AI

If we all got one thing out of The Game Awards (aside from Harrison Ford still being the GOAT), it's that newly announced game Catly sure looks like it was made with AI and thrown together as a cash grab.

Well, IGN got a statement from a PR representative authorized to speak on behalf of developer SuperAuthenti stating that there's been no AI used at all in the development of the game or in the trailer. IGN backs up the statement, saying they were also shown some legitimate gameplay and it looks the same. We'll have to see when it releases to be sure, but here's hoping it's all above-board.

Sony Becomes Largest Shareholder in Kadokawa

It's been rumored for a couple of weeks, but now it's confirmed: Sony's invested 50 billion yen into Kadokawa, which is FromSoftware's parent company. It's not a full takeover, but rather a ‘Strategic Capital and Business Alliance,' according to the two companies.

But surprisingly, Sony's interest in Kadokawa is less on the FromSoft side and more on the anime side of things. Then again... might we get a live action Elden Ring one day because of this deal? Perhaps!

Nintendo Switch passes the PS2 in sales

It's official: The Nintendo Switch is now the second-best-selling gaming hardware in US history, right behind the Nintendo DS (it's 7 million units behind).

That's a pretty big hill to have climbed over, as the PS2 was crowning champion for the longest time and still one of the greatest consoles ever released. Kudos to Nintendo! Now maybe we'll hear something about the Nintendo Switch 2...
