Video game news in review: The biggest news from the week of December 12, 2024
Video game news went crazy this week thanks to the 2024 Game Awards. We'll have a separate post on that soon, but for now, let's jump into all the other news that happened before Thursday night.
No more Suicide Squad updates
Yes, to no one's surprise, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is officially done with updates come this January. The game, which kept getting delayed before releasing last winter, came out to incredibly middling reviews and was pretty underwhelming.
Since its release, Rocksteady has been giving it the updates it guaranteed, but after Season 4, episode 8, there will be no more updates. We're not terribly surprised, but it's still a little sad the game couldn't ever evolve into anything more.
New game releases this week
If you missed it, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle released on Monday, December 10th. Gameranx has a good Before You Buy, but honestly... if you love the original Indiana Jones movie trilogy, you'll enjoy playing this game. And Troy Baker's Indy is top-notch.
Also, we missed it last week, but Marvel Rivals released on December 5, which is the team-based PVP shooter. It's got pretty decent reviews and looks like the perfect kind of comic book fun. Again, there's a Before You Buy if you're interested in some feedback before you sink any time into it (it's free to play!).
Free Astro Bot expansion
Yes, the 2024 GOTY got a free expansion that launched on December 12. The only catch is that you have to beat the base game before you can play it. It's a brand new level, and this game is incredibly fun and family-friendly. If you haven't given it a shot but enjoyed Astro's Playroom when the PS5 launched, this is perfect.
December's PlayStation Plus Game Catalog update
For PS Plus Premium members, you have a slew of new video games at your disposal in December. Sony announced a bunch of games starting December 17, including Sonic Frontiers, Forspoken, Jurassic World Evolution 2, Coffee Talk, and Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. There's plenty more, so go check it out if you're a Premium member.
Cyberpunk 2.2 update
Cyberpunk 2077 has a 2.2 update out now. This one includes 100 new customizable options for V, new compatability for select vehicle brands, and a huge overhaul to their photo mode. CD Projekt Red has taken great care to make this game what it should have been from the start, so this is all excellent.
