Betty White, the legendary and well-loved comedian with a passion for animals and who graced the small screen with her bubbly presence as Rose on The Golden Girls, will be honored in a very special way. She'll be placed on a US postage stamp to celebrate her life.

Growing up, I have fond memories of watching The Golden Girls with my grandmother and mother, and while at the time I had no understanding of the jokes, I enjoyed the time I got to spend with them. I still watch The Golden Girls with now a sense of its material, and who wouldn't laugh at Rose's St. Olaf stories or Dorothy's acidic cynicism? Sophia showed appreciation for Old World values while being modernized and updated.

The Golden Girls altered the television landscape with its content, and just because you're of a certain age (and I'm not there yet), it doesn't deflect you from living life and changing society with realism. Betty White was an integral part of the change, as were her co-stars, and although they've passed on, their lessons on life, love, and cheesecake are still being taught.

The USPS announced on February 20th that the beloved Betty would be "commentated" on a Forever stamp for her extensive work in television and charitable endeavors. She is the first of the four Golden Girls to achieve this honor.

White passed away in 2021, just a few weeks shy of her 100th birthday. While she missed her milestone, fans celebrated by donating to various animal shelters and nonprofits and declaring her January 17th birthday as "Betty White Day."

Prior to its March 27th release, USPS dropped an official press statement, which Culturess obtained, that elaborated on its newest stamp.

"
This collectible Forever stamp honors beloved American actress and comedienne Betty White (1922-2021), whose impish smile is depicted on the stamp and lit up performances in a career that spanned more than 60 years. Often referred to as the “First Lady of Television,” White was honored with five Primetime Emmy Awards for her work in television, as well as three Screen Actors Guild Awards, a Grammy Award and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She was also much recognized for her animal welfare work."

The stamp is in various shades of purples and violets, with Betty's smiling face and bright blue eyes lighting up the piece, In the background, polka float around her and match the ones on her blouse. Below her digital portrait is her named in boldened white text, with USPS's "Forever" below it.

People can see the stamp's release in person at the free one-day event at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens on March 27th. Attendees can also enjoy a fun day at the zoo and learn more about flora and wildlife conservation. It's in the best interest that attendees should sign up to reserve a spot, as this is an event that will book quickly.

It's with hope that the USPS will release more women from The Golden Girls and create a memorable, one-of-a-kind collection. Maybe it will happen one day, as it's too good not to.
