PlayStation Plus Essential Tier members have a pretty solid month of free games in May! That's a nice change of pace over how this year has started.

Here are your free games for the month of May:

  • EA Sports FC 24
  • Ghostrunner 2
  • Tunic
  • Destiny 2: Lightfall

EA Sports FC 24 is the first soccer game since EA parted ways with FIFA. Honestly, it's more of the same as their prior games just without the label. You still have plenty of modes to play, including Career, Tournaments, Kick Off, and Ultimate Team among others and the graphics are still top-notch for a soccer game. If you liked the games of the past, EA still does a good job on its own, so you won't be disappointed with this installment.

Ghostrunner 2 drops you into a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk future and builds off of everything that made the first game great. It's high-stakes combat, still a one-hit scenario where you have to fight through enemies without taking any damage. It is unrelenting and fast-paced, but once you get into the groove of the action, you'll be hooked.

If you ever wanted to play a Soulslike Legend of Zelda, then boy is Tunic the game for you. Tunic drops you into a mysterious world that's a love letter to Zelda in so many ways. You never learn the language, but that doesn't matter. You get to explore different biomes of this world, take on infuriating bosses, get new weapons and abilities, and figure out the leveling system.

Last up is Destiny 2: Lightfall, which is technically just an expansion for the game, but since it's a free-to-play game, you do have access to it. Lightfall takes you to Neptune to meet the Cloud Striders and fight the Shadow Legion. There's a new class to play, too, called The Strand. There's not much else to say about it; it's a Destiny expansion, so if those aren't your cup of tea, you probably won't enjoy this one.

As an FYI, for PlayStation Plus subscribers who are in the Extra tier, you are losing 34 games as of May 21st. This happens every month, but we're still waiting on what games are replacing them. Some of the bigger names include Horizon Zero Dawn and quite a few Final Fantasy games. You can check out the full list here.
