What's new this July 2024 for PlayStation Plus members
PlayStation Plus Essential tier members have three new games for the month of July at their disposal. They're some heavy-hitter names, but some of them are a little... dated.
Here are your free games for the month of July:
- Borderlands 3
- NHL 2K24
- Among Us
Also in addition to those three free games, any Genshin Impact players have access to a bundle starting on July 16 that includes 160 Primogems, four Fragile Resin, 20 Hero's Wit, 30 Mystic Enhancement Ore, and 150,000 Mora.
Okay, first up is Borderlands 3, which was released in 2019. It's your looter shooter game for the month and brings all the insanity and wacky colors and off-brand humor that the Borderlands series is known for. You get to play as one of four customizable Vault Hunters–and we do mean customizable. The limits are endless. There are also some fun skill trees that you can tailor to whatever playstyle you want.
The inclusion of this game has piqued our interest. Maybe there's a Borderlands 4 announcement on the horizon...? We'll have to wait and see.
Up next is NHL 2K24, your hockey video game for the month. If you're already missing hockey, the timing is perfect for this one. Granted, the reviews for it aren't super great. The franchise hasn't done much to reinvigorate the different game modes. The graphics are pretty good, though, and it will scratch that itch. Maybe you can get the Edmonton Oilers to win the Stanley Cup in video game form!
Last up is Among Us, which feels like a very odd choice, as it's a relatively cheap game to start and is usually on sale every couple of weeks. If you've never played it before or didn't jump on the bandwagon during the height of COVID, it's a game of deception where you play on a team of crewmates preparing a spaceship for departure... but not everyone is playing on the same team. It's a pretty fun time, honestly. It just seems like a weird inclusion this month.
Keep your eyes peeled on that July 16th date, as many industry experts feel like that's when Sony is going to announce updates to the Extra and Premium tiers, as we don't have those updates yet. We'll have to wait and see!
