Video game news round-up: Week of May 17, 2024
Video game news never takes a break, and with how insane these last few years have been (announcements, delays, movies and TV shows), we thought it was time to give you a weekly round-up of the highlights over the past week.
So let's just jump right in and get down to the video game news!
Hades II is officially in early access
We're a week late on this one, but Hades II, after showing off some intense and polished-looking gameplay a few weeks ago, launched in early access on PC on May 7th, much to everyone's surprise.
And for early access, this is an incredibly polished game. While there's still no ending and Supergiant Games confirmed quite a few additions that will be in the official 1.0 release, the early access is still impressive. And addicting.
According to Supergiant, the game will be in early access for the rest of 2024, but we wouldn't be surprised if we're playing the official release in early 2025. Until then, we'll keep jamming out to Scylla and the Sirens.
The Last of Us Season 2 first look
Max's Twitter gave us the first official look at The Last of Us season 2, which we all know will break our hearts even more than the first season did.
Fans of the game probably recognize those party lights behind Joel and that heartbreaking cut scene from the game. It'll be interesting to see what the show does with regards to the storyline and how it gets structured or if they'll add anything in from the time jump between the two games.
Season two is set to premiere in 2025.
Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut out on PC
Ghost of Tsushima is an absolutely gorgeous game and made our list of games you should have played in 2020. The Director's Cut was released in 2021 and gave players Iki Island, a new storyline for Jin.
And now PC players have the chance to play it, too. The Director's Cut version of the game launches on PC on May 16. We can't wait to see the mods gamers come up with for it.
Assassin's Creed Shadows trailer
Ubisoft gave us the first official trailer for Assassin's Creed Shadows, their open world Japan installment of the video game series.
While cinematic trailers don't show much in way of gameplay or combat, it looks incredibly pretty and detailed. IGN has a more in-depth dive into it, giving us a bit more of what the game will entail, including dynamic weather, a Splinter Cell-like stealth system, and much more.
This installment releases on November 15, 2024.
