Video game news round-up: Week of June 21, 2024
Video game news is still hot off the press, although it's a bit of a quiet week despite the Nintendo Direct that streamed on Tuesday. But don't worry, we've got you covered on what they announced, so let's jump in!
Nintendo Direct for June 2024
Once more, no announcements for Hollow Knight: Silksong, but we did get a reveal for Metroid Prime 4, which is a big deal! And a Legend of Zelda game where... you play as Zelda? And use tables to beat the bad guys? Count us in!

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC launch
To no one's surprise, the DLC for Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree has launched on June 21 to resounding praise from critics.
Please also note that if you're playing on Steam Deck, there is a bug that will freeze your entire device. FromSoftware has already said They're working on a hotfix, but it's not included in the first patch. Just don't let the game sit inactive for more than five minutes.
GamesCon 2024 is a Microsoft-only show
GamesCon 2024 takes place from August 21 to August 25 and Microsoft is rearing to go. Sony announced they're sitting it out (which is expected because they haven't attended in years), and Nintendo is also laying low.
But expect to hear announcements about Avowed, The Elder Scrolls Online, Fallout 76, and the Diablo 4 expansion Vessel of Hatred. I'm sure there will be plenty more that haven't been mentioned yet.
Magic: the Gathering and Assassin's Creed
Wizards of the Coast has been going full force with their Universes Beyond sets of Magic: the Gathering over the last few years. Next up is Assassin's Creed. They released the above trailer and gave us three new card reveals.
Their website has a pretty good breakdown of the different versions of cards and the various packs and boxes that will be available when the set launches.
Magic: The Gathering - Assassin's Creed will arrive on July 5.
