Lucy Score is most known for her romance books and in particular, her Knockemout series but did you know she writes mysteries, too? If not, let me introduce you to The Dead Guy Next Door.

That sounds slightly ominous but just hear me out. The Dead Guy Next Door is the first book in her Riley Thorn series and it’s sort of a hybrid book by Lucy Score as there’s a mystery but it also feels like a romance and also has some great friendship moments.

Even though I’ve only just read The Dead Guy Next Door, I can see why this series is such a hit among Lucy Score fans. While you can’t technically classify it as a romance, it gives you just enough to make you want it to be a romance which is something I can appreciate.

Whether you were introduced to Lucy Score by one of her other series or just want something fresh from her, The Dead Guy Next Door will do the trick.

The Dead Guy Next Door is a fun start to Lucy Score’s Riley Thorn series.

Let me start this review by saying that I have heard so many great things about this series and I was so excited to start it. Thankfully, The Dead Guy Next Door ended up living up to the hype which is always something to be happy about.

The Dead Guy Next Door introduces us to Riley Thorn who is messy, lives in a mansion with some elder roommates, and is divorced. Things get even weirder for her as she sees a vision of her neighbor Dickie getting murdered and decides to warn the cops. Of course, her vision comes true which puts her in quite a precarious situation.

In addition, Riley is also pretending to be engaged to Nick who is a private investigator, trying to find out what really happened to Dickie. Ultimately, this book ends up being a rollercoaster for both Riley and Nick as they’re trying to figure out what happened to Dickie while juggling some unexpected feelings for each other and getting involved in her neighbor’s many shenanigans.

For the most part, the book focuses on Riley and Nick finding Dickie’s killer, figuring out their motive, and trying to take down a surprising villain. However, there is a smidge of romance between Nick and Riley that is hard to ignore. Plus Riley is also trying to figure out how to harness her psychic powers and it makes for such an interesting side-plot.

If you’re looking for a mystery with a dash of romance and plenty of shenanigans, then The Dead Guy Next Door is a great place to start. Plus it’s Lucy Score so you’re bound to have a fun time regardless.

The Dead Guy Next Door by Lucy Score is out now where books are sold.
