The BAFTA Games Awards nominations have arrived, and they are stacked
The BAFTA Games Awards nominations came out, and boy are they everything you want them to be.
Award season for video games has been crazy this year. So many fantastic games came out throughout 2023 that it's truly hard to get a gauge on any clear frontrunners at the BAFTA Games Awards.
Baldur's Gate 3 has ten nominations alone with Marvel's Spider-Man 2 racking in nine and Alan Wake 2 having eight. Of course, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor aren't slacking either with six nominations each.
The best game category contains the contenders you'd expect: Baldur's Gate 3, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Alan Wake 2, Dave the Diver and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
And who knows who will even win best game? Baldur's Gate 3 won at The Game Awards and the D.I.C.E. Awards, but Spider-Man 2 won at the PlayStation Blog Game of the Year. There could even be an upset and maybe Super Mario Bros. Wonder comes out on top!
It's nice to see Dave the Diver and Dredge both getting a handful of nominations as well, as both games made our list of 2023 games you should have played.
We've made no secret of our love of Alan Wake 2, and it's honestly kind of fun to see Sam Lake nominated for performer in a supporting role for his portrayal of Alex Casey. It's a bummer there's not a good way to nominate Ilkka Villi and Matthew Porretta both for their halves of Alan Wake, but we'll let Sam Lake keep living his best life.
And at this point, we haven't even touched on Tears of the Kingdom or Jedi: Survivor or even Hogwarts Legacy! 2023 was an absolutely insane year for video games. Hogwarts Legacy fulfilled Potterheads dreams of walking the halls and grounds of Hogwarts while Star Wars Jedi: Survivor gave us an action- and drama-filled follow-up to Jedi: Fallen Order, but both games came out in the first half of the year and became overshadowed by everything else.
Still, the BAFTA Games Awards should be a heck of a lot of fun just to see how many awards each game racks in.
