MaXXXine steers a third installment in writer-director Ti West's X film trilogy set in Los Angeles, California in the mid to almost the late 1980s. MaXXXine shines a light on a topic shown from the poster's tagline addressing Hollywood, the industry is a killer with a touch of R-rated B-horror elements.

Goth plays the charming title role of Maxine in MaXXXine, but also serves as A24’s executive producer. This is the final chapter in the trilogy from West, all starring Goth, MaXXXine follows in the aftermath of X and spotlights Maxine Minx (Mia Goth), the final woman in the farmhouse bloodbath who ended the corrupt 70s slasher X.

Now working in Hollywood in adult film entertainment as a 30-something, Maxine aspires to cross over to legit big-screen fame. Halfway to the beginning of MaXXXine, Maxine gets her big break as the lead protagonist in a horror film by a British female filmmaker (Elizabeth Debicki) who acts more of a mentor and confidant to Maxine.

Alongside, Goth and Debicki is a star-stunning supporting cast including Kevin Bacon, Giancarlo Esposito, Lily Collins, Halsey, and much more.

MaXXXine provides a recap of what happened in the last X films, and director West explains that MaXXXine is an evolution of X and Pearl to show Goth in ways that are different from the last movies.

MaXXXine shines a light on the low-budget horror genre from the 1980s while throwing a shoutout to the horror scream queens as well as an Easter Egg to the OG horror film that started it all. However, the fascination of MaXXXine is the head-turning, eye-catching fashion in the film from Maxine’s green varsity jacket, and her light-matching denim attire to other female characters’ wardrobes.

The film’s relevancy to working women where Goth expressed that women with aspirations, believe in themselves, and know what they’re capable of before the rest of the world. Goth stated that the women in MaXXXine are waiting for the world to catch up to them and a lot of women can relate to that.
