Covering someone's song doesn't always guarantee success. However, for Luke Combs, covering Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" did more than just guarantee success.

Whether you originally grew up with "Fast Car" by Chapman or just heard Combs' cover, the song has been everywhere. Regardless if you connect to the lyrics or just love Combs' voice, "Fast Car" has taken on a new life of its own.

Thankfully, we're finally going to be the original performer, Tracy Chapman performing with Luke Combs at the 2024 Grammys according to Billboard. Whether you're a fan of the new version or not, there is no denying the song has lasting appeal as it's either being played on the radio or is being talked about by someone you know.

Either way, this special performance is one thing I have been personally dying to see. As someone who grew up with my parents, playing Tracy Chapman's original version, it's so amazing to see everyone else rediscovering the song now.

"Fast Car" is headed back to the Grammys.

Whether you watched the song being performed at the Grammys in 1989 or not, "Fast Car" has always had its appeal. When I first heard the song, I was drawn to Tracy Chapman's voice and how the story she told felt so real. We've all felt like getting away and making a change but sometimes, things just hold you back.

While the song originally charted on the Pop charts, seeing it on the country charts is just amazing and proves the staying power of the song. Even though Luke Combs is a huge star in his own right, this has been something unique. He managed to make such a beloved song his own while also paying homage to the original artist and I think that's part of the reason why it resonated with so many listeners.

Given all of that popularity, we're now seeing it being performed by the two on the Grammys. I honestly cannot wait to hear how it sounds and to see Tracy Chapman perform. She doesn't perform nearly as much as she has in the past so seeing her perform such a huge hit with Luke Combs is bound to be a treat.
