Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez made me love her and her books
Giving an author a second chance isn’t easy which is exactly how I felt about Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez.
If you recall, Jimenez originally released her debut in 2019 which was The Friend Zone. I was incredibly excited about it and bought it but ended up not enjoying it. From there, I felt like Abby Jimenez was not for me.
However, upon hearing all the buzz around Part of Your World and getting an ARC of Just for the Summer, I decided to give Abby Jimenez a second chance and see if that book was just a fluke or if she wasn’t for me.
With that being said, I’d like to thank Forever for sending me an ARC of Just for the Summer so I can share my thoughts and feelings with you all.
Just for the Summer made me love Abby Jimenez.
If you couldn’t tell, Just for the Summer ended up being a major win for me. The story follows Justin who is cursed in a weird way. Every woman he goes out with for a few dates always meets the love of her life after they break up. He shares the story on Reddit and Emma reaches out to him, explaining that the same thing happens to her.
The two start chatting online and eventually, want to meet up. The bad news is that Justin is in Minnesota and Emma is a traveling nurse, heading to Hawaii. Eventually, she’s able to convince her best friend, Maddy to go to Minnesota next and the two go there.
It’s clear from the moment Emma and Justin meet that they have a connection. Maybe it’s the curse or just them finding a kindred spirit in each other but they just fit. While the romance is amazing, Abby Jimenez doesn’t stop there as Emma and Justin are both dealing with a lot on top of “the curse.”
Emma has some trauma around her mother as she gives her too many chances and doesn’t like to get close to people. Justin is getting custody of his siblings since his mom is going to jail for stealing and he also lost his father. These two are dealing with so much, but it makes for such a compelling read.
While their romance seems unlikely at times, Abby Jimenez pulled this off and made me fall in love with these two. Honestly, I was crying multiple times before the book even ended if that tells you anything. Just for the Summer was truly such a wonderful romance and was the perfect book for my second chance with Abby Jimenez.
Whether you’re new to Abby Jimenez, need to give her a second chance, or love her, Just for the Summer is a book you won’t want to miss.
Just for the Summer is out now where books are sold.
