When it comes to horror movies, most of us don't think of former heartthrobs. However, Josh Hartnett is taking up the mantle in M. Night Shyamalan's Trap.

While we've covered the trailer in the past, it feels like something fresh and new for both Hartnett and Shyamalan. Obviously, Hartnett has appeared in horror movies before and Shyamalan is a famous director but seeing these two come together is brilliant.

If you've watched the trailer, it does feel like it gives everything away. Given how much flack the director has gotten in the past, I can see why he made that choice. However, it does give us a lot of ideas about what the big "twist" could be.

With that being said, Josh Hartnett did discuss his role briefly with Variety as he said: "The script was just batshit crazy. I was like, ‘YES!’ The character is wonderful...I can’t say anything about it, because he’ll kill me. But the characters are all wonderfully complex.” Let me just say that the author noted he was smiling ear to ear so what does that mean?!

Could Trap be the best M. Night Shyamalan movie in decades?

If you haven't watched the trailer yet, we're going to include it below. However, the description and how Josh Hartnett acted with Variety have me so excited for Trap. While the trailer seems to give away the entire plot, that smile and his not being able to say anything gets me so excited. It feels like we're going to be something fresh and new in the best way.

For the most part, people have been able to guess or at least, piece together what M. Night Shyamalan was doing in his previous films. Since Hartnett noted the complexity of the characters, it leads me to believe that we're only getting part of the story. Maybe Hartnett's character is doing this for a good reason or just targeting people who deserve it. Then again, maybe he's just evil but honestly, that's part of what makes the movie so exciting.

No matter if the twist is unique or just plain silly, I feel like having Josh Hartnett revealed as the killer in the trailer gives us a certain expectation. There are just so many lingering questions, thoughts, and ideas to ponder about Trap. As horror movie fans, it feels like part of the reason why we're always so excited to see these films and then, discuss them.

All I know is that August cannot come any sooner as I can't wait to get a ticket to see Trap and hopefully, it'll be a right to form for M. Night Shyamalan. In addition, Josh Hartnett will be on the big screen which is sometimes all a girl can ask for.

Trap will be released in theaters on August 9th, 2024.
