Is All American: Homecoming going a little too fast with JR and Keisha?

All American: Homecoming has committed to its season three time jump, making a point of it to confirm Simone and Damon's one-year romance just to write it off and break them up at the conclusion of the season opener. As much as Simone and Damon's relationship may or may not be a fan-favorite, at least the narrative had backed up Simone's initial choice between Damon and Lando.

Even though Simone and Lando continue to have a strong connection after Simone and Damon's break-up, initially having her pick Damon and allowing the duo to embark on a romantic relationship was how All American: Homecoming addressed, and potentially gave closure to, the connection Simone and Damon shared. Portraying Simone and Lando's potential romantic reconciliation by allowing their friendship bond to grow again on-screen also allows the narrative to evolve their dynamic and ground it in a foundation for if or when All American: Homecoming decides to bring Simone and Lando back together.

But, All American: Homecoming's decision with JR and Keisha is arguably more confusing and out of left field than any other romance on the show. The series justifies their stronger friendship bond by referencing that Keisha had been JR's donor and played a strong role in his rehabilitation. However, it does, in a way, hurt JR and Keisha's dynamic that All American: Homecoming states in conversation rather than actively showing Keisha and JR's growing friendship.

Although that reference does offer some context, it is not enough to justify the arc All American: Homecoming appears to be taking where this bond JR and Keisha formed entirely off-screen is enough to put a wedge between them and their respective romantic partners Gabby and Cam.

If All American: Homecoming wanted to mix things up a bit with the show's romantic partners, it would not be entirely surprising. When the season was written, the show was not certain of its fate, and it is a realistic approach to show that not all college couples last. Break-ups and dating other people is a relatable storyline. Unfortunately, if that is the direction All American: Homecoming is going with JR and Keisha, it is moving far too quickly. Not necessarily in the sense that the show has already confirmed a romance for them, but because the strength of their bond does not feel entirely organic based on how they were presented in season three.

All American: Homecoming barely offered a more platonic look at Keisha and JR's relationship before "Before I Let Go" had Cam realized that there might be something happening between JR and Keisha, something that Gabby had previously referenced when she realized that Keisha knew more about JR's motives than Gabby did.

A stronger friendship between Keisha and JR is not unwelcome, especially when the series is supposed to show that the Bringston found family is a group of people who all have strong ties, connections, and individual relationships with each other.

But, to suggest the implication that there might be more happening between them when All American: Homecoming had never even shown how their friendship developed over the time jump is just resulting in the storyline moving too quickly.
