While the fog is slowly building till the August 30 opening, the revealed Halloween Horror Nights 33 scarezones have people planning their quick escape. From wicked witches to choosing a sinister path, every twist and turn leads to another brush with terror.
During Halloween Horror Nights, the event is more than just a few minutes traversing the haunted houses and avoiding the next jump scare. From the moment guests pass under the arch, they better assemble their squad and watch their backs.
The scarezones add to the overall vibe. Although each one stands on its own, there are subtle ties that incorporate the year’s theme, signature character, or other commonality. Although Universal Orlando has been strategic in announcing each new piece of information, the reality is that every item builds anticipation to the big opening night.
What are the Halloween Horror Nights 33 scarezones?
According to Universal Orlando, the four announced scarezones are Duality of Fear, Swamp of the Dead, Torture Faire, and Demon Queen. While each one has its frights, one might set the tone for the evening.
As soon as guests enter, they are faced with a choice. Like any good horror movie fan appreciates, each path has its consequences.
In Duality of Fear, SINIST3R and SURR3AL are related yet separate. The reality is that one is the “manifestation of visceral horror,” and the other is “the incarnation of unearthly terror.” Whether one option is better than the other remains to be seen. Maybe a few people will be lucky enough to venture down both paths.

Although Universal has trudged through corn field in years past, the Swamp of the Dead builds on the bayou theme that has popped up within other Universal Orlando events. These Louisiana backwaters are far from those “good times” that fill the spring. This tale is full of travelers who made an unwise choice.

In Torture Faire, this midway blends game of chance with medieval lore. The chivalrous knights of the round table have been replaced by sinister fellows looking to strap guests into the ultimate heavy metal experience. It is definitely the darker side of those royal games.
