Grab the popcorn. The Love of My Afterlife is becoming a movie!
Raise your hand if you're here for all the book-to-movie adaptations of romance books. The latest to add to the list is The Love of My Afterlife by Kristy Greenwood.
Released in July 2024, this was one we read and reviewed on Culturess so to see such a quick turnaround is pretty darn cool. Plus this book got so much hype before it was even released that I'm sure most of us saw this coming.
Even if you didn't, it gives you even more of a reason to pick it up ahead of the film. Following our main character, Delphie who begins the book by dying. Yes, she dies at the beginning of the book but that's the ultimate catalyst for her.
While in the afterlife, she meets a guy and she already know that he's her soulmate. Since she doesn't want to die, her guardian angel gives her 10 days to find him and kiss him so she can be brought back to life and get her happily-ever-after.
The Love of My Afterlife is a great choice to become a movie.
With a dash of magical realism, an unexpected romance, and loads of fun side characters, I can see why this one was picked up. The story was surprisingly easy to get into and even though Delphie has her moments, she's really rooting for her throughout the entire story. Plus the title of this book is just too good to ignore.
In the article shared by Deadline, Wayfarer Studios is the one behind this film. Most of us know of the studio's latest release: It Ends With Us. Aside from the drama with that, this one is less likely to be marketed in a strange way. However, that's a conversation for another day. Greenwood is serving as an executive producer on the upcoming adaptation which already feels like a good sign.
Regardless of your thoughts on Wayfarer's previous release, this feels like a good sign for the romance community. Hopefully, we'll be seeing more book-to-movie or book-to-tv adaptations as there are so many great romances we'd love to see on-screen. Thankfully, The Love of My Afterlife is a solid choice so I'm excited to see who ends up being cast and how it's all going to look on the big screen.
