Flavor Flav is adding "Hype Man" to his already impressive professional resume. Flavor Flav is a highly successful musician, with a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and having earned the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2020. But he is also putting his charisma to good use for the upcoming USA Olympic Water Polo Team as a Hype Man, supporting both the women's and men's teams. However, that is not all. Flavor Flav has also partnered up with 5-Hour Energy for collaboration over custom cufflinks designed by Verstolo Jewelry. Flavor Flav discusses what excited him about Water Polo and how his partnership with 5-Hour Energy began.

Culturess: What can you say about your role as the official Hype Man of the USA Olympic's Water Polo National Team?

Flavor Flav: I can say that right now, it's a very exciting role. I'm honored and I'm proud to be sponsoring the Women's Water Polo Team. Not only that, but I'm excited to be a sponsor really of the Water Polo Team period. Not just the women but the men's too as well. I've been mostly with the girls because those are the ones that caught my interest. Those are the ones that caught my eye. I'm honored. I'm honored right now. I can't wait to go to Paris for the opening of the games because I really wanna be there and see these girls do their thing.

Culturess: What inspired your collaboration with 5-Hour Energy?

,Flavor Flav: My interest was this thing that they came to me with. You know what they came to me with? They said, 'Flav, we've got a good idea and we want you to help us let the public know about this great idea we got.' I said, 'What's this great idea y'all got?' They said, 'Well, Flav, we got these cufflinks right here.' This cufflink right there holds half a bottle. Each cufflink holds a half a bottle. So, when you fill both of these, that means now you got a full 5-Hour Energy shot. You heard me? You can't go wrong with these. You can't go wrong with this. I said, 'You know what? That's not a bad idea. It's a great idea. Nobody else is doing it. Nobody else got them.' I always like to be the first to have something and to do something. So I said, 'That's a great idea. Let me take it on.' So, this is my partnership right now with 5-Hour Energy. These cufflinks are dope. I can see a bunch of people like you wearing them. Get some for your dad. Get some for your brother. Get some for your cousin. I mean, these things are gonna blow up. This is gonna blow up. I think you better get them now when they're not too blown up because once they blow up, man, listen.

Culturess: How are you styling your new cufflinks?

Flavor Flav: I style them on my shirt with my suit. I put on my suit, and I put the cufflinks on my sleeve, and I show them off like that.

Culturess: How did you become a Taylor Swift fan?

Flavor Flav: I became a Taylor Swift fan by going to her concert and her fanbase treating me the way that they do. It made me go home and listen to her music more. When I listened to the song "Bad Blood," which is my favorite one out of all of her songs, it made me feel who she was and who she is. So, I really like Taylor Swift, and I'm proud to be supporting her and all of that great stuff. Also, they call me King Swiftie.

Culturess: What made you interested in supporting Water Polo?

Flavor Flav: Well, let me tell you like this, my Nana just seen the story of Maggie Steffens, and when she showed me that story of Maggie Steffens, you know, these women are out here trying to make the United States look real good, busting their ass making the United States look good. So, I said, 'You know what, let me give them some type of support. Let me just give them some support.' So, I'm hoping that the support that I give them will give them enough energy and enough enthusiasm to go out there and get that fourth gold medal. So, I'm honored to sponsor them, not only them but the men's team too as well. So, I'm a sponsor of the Water Polo team period, you know, both men and women's, but it's the girls that really got my interest. Hey, listen, we're gonna see what goes down. We're going for gold medal number four.

Culturess: In what ways do you connect an athlete's dedication to Olympic sports to the work you put in to building your music career?

Flavor Flav: I'll take a person, for instance, like one person I really wanna meet so bad, I wanna meet, that I gotta meet is Simone Biles. She is so dope. Not only that, but to where she is now going for her ninth gold medal, it took a whole lot of work and dedication, and it took years of dedication to get to that level, just like all of the years that I put into my work. It took years for me to get to this level, and it took years to be labeled an icon, or it took many years to be labeled a legend. So that's how I can compare it, really, just like that. It takes a lot of work. It takes a lot of dedication. It takes a lot of time. Hard work but true work. You can't be afraid of failure. If you're afraid of failure, then you're gonna be afraid of success. So you can't be afraid to fail because sometimes it takes you to fail in order for you to succeed.

Culturess: What excites you the most about performing new music?

Flavor Flav: The thing that excites me the most is I can't wait to do it and to see people's reactions. So, that's the thing that really amps me up the most about it.

Culturess: You grew up in New York. Did that have any role in influencing your career.

Flavor Flav: Sure it did, because by me growing up in New York, I grew up a certain way, it made me a certain way, and a certain way that I am is a certain way that the world perceives me. So, if I had to change anything else in the world, would I change it? Nope. I would leave everything the same and keep doing it just like this to where I'm able to now be on the line with you.

Culturess: How would you say your artistic style has developed over the years?

Flavor Flav: It developed into a good way, in an influential way. God is good. He let me put something out there and a lot of people followed it. A lot of styles that I've created, people follow them, and it was good stuff though so at least I feel good to know that people follow me about good stuff and not the bad s**t.

Culturess: Is there anything you can tease about your upcoming projects of the collaborations with 5-Hour Energy and as the Water Polo Hype Man?

Flavor Flav: Well, the only thing I can say, as far as the Water Polo and me being the Hype Man and all that, I can not wait until I get to Paris so I can see these games with my own eyes because I've never ever been to an Olympics ever in my life, and for my first time I got a feeling it's gonna be pretty exciting. As far as the 5-Hour Energy thing, you're gonna see what the future beholds with that. You know, I just partnered up with them right now, so we'll see what happens after this year.

To catch the Olympics, tune in from Friday, July 26th until Sunday, August 11th.
