Danielle Fishel of Boy Meets World fame shared the sad news that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The 43-year-old actress shared the medical update on her podcast, "Pod Meets World," on August 18th with her former costars, Will Friedle and Rider Strong. The men portrayed Eric Matthews and Shawn Hunter, respectively, on the ABC teen comedy, which ran for seven seasons from 1993 to 2000.

Now, Fishel-who played everyone's favorite 90's It Girl, Topanga Lawrence-took some time on the podcast to elaborate on her cancer ordeal and what her treatment options will be to the listeners. While it's frightening to receive a cancer diagnosis, Fishel had some good news regarding her case.

Danielle Fishel reveals she has 'Stage 0' breast cancer

At the very beginning of the podcast, Fishel revealed her diagnosis and relieved everyone that she'll be "fine." Her specific breast cancer is called 'DCIS,' or Ductal Carcinoma In Situ, and it's found in mammogram results. Per the Mayo Clinic, the cancer cells are in the milk ducts but have not yet expanded beyond.

Fishel further described DCIS, her treatment plans, and the support she received from Friedle.

" I would like to share something with our listeners. I was recently
diagnosed with DCIS, which stands for Ductal Carcinoma in Situ,
which is a form of breast cancer. It is very, very, very early. It's technically stage zero, to be specific. I was diagnosed with high-grade DCIS with micro invasion,
and I'm going to be fine. "

Her treatment outline will include surgery, and she and her medical team will go from there.

"I'm having surgery to remove it. I'm going to be on some some follow-up treatment. "

If it wasn't for Fishel's annual mammogram, the DCIS might have spread beyond the ducts and mastered a higher stage, which would require more aggressive treatments. She encouraged women to get their annual mammograms as they can save lives since the scan can detect cancer early.

" The only reason I caught this cancer when it [was] still stage zero is because
the day I got my text message that my yearly mammogram had come up. I made the appointment. I was like, yeah, it's time, got to make that appointment. And they found [the cancer] so early that I'm going to be fine. I want to share [my story] because I hope it will encourage anyone to get in there if it's time for your appointment; if you've never had an appointment before, get in there. "

Friedle offered his support to Fishel, saying that "even she'll have some sucky days ahead. " He and Strong love her, and if the two have to halt the podcast for Fishel's treatments, they'll do that for her.

As women, we must keep in check with ourselves so we'll know what to do in case anything should arise or happen. Although it can be difficult and horrifying to manage, having options, as well as sharing our stories will only open the doors to preventative care and support.
