Make It Or Break It: Payson, Kaylie, Lauren, and Emily

Competition becomes much more personal and professional when the end goal is a Gold Medal at the Olympics. Make It Or Break It understands the lines between friendship, teamwork, and competition when it challenges its teenage characters to be the best. Except, there are a few pitfalls with this.

As the series points out, it is important to have teammates you can trust to be your support system on this strive for Olympic Gold. On the other hand, only one will walk away with the Gold Medal.

Lauren spends most of the show acting as an antagonist, wanting to be the best but never quite able to beat out her fellow Olympic hopefuls on anything other than Beam. Payson struggles with jealousy and a desperate desire to return to the mat after an injury leaves her unable to participate, and a big performance earns Kaylie the title of National Champion. Meanwhile, Kaylie struggles to keep her upward momentum going as she is overwhelmed by expectations. Emily's biggest struggle follows her inability to get out of her own way as she constantly breaks The Rock's strict rules to have a job and a boyfriend, acting out of believing she can have it all.

The lines between friend, enemy, competition, and ally are thin, and this group of girls must rely on determining in which way they can be the best version of themselves.

Ultimately, this group of four became three when Emily chose her pregnancy and control over her own life rather than the confining rules of Olympic training. In the end, Kaylie, Payson, and Lauren became each other's biggest supporters and stood together as members of the United States' chosen Olympic team.
