What's new in December 2024 for PlayStation Plus members

PlayStation Plus essential tier members have three free games in December across three completely separate genres, and they're all pretty decent for a change! Nothing over the top to get too excited for, but you may actually play all three of them!

Here are your free games for the month of December for PlayStation Plus members:

• It Takes Two

• Aliens: Dark Descent

• Temtem

It Takes Two won Game of the Year back in 2021 and is generally considered to be one of the best co-op games out there. And this is a co-op game; you can't get around that at all.

You play as a bickering couple named Cody and May as you try to work through your relationship issues. Some of the tasks you're put up against can cause some actual real-world strife between you and your game-playing partner just because it takes a lot of coordination and some darn good timing.

Honestly, making a game about working through relationship issues a co-op is brilliant on so many levels. And it's fun as heck.

Next up is Aliens: Dark Descent, which is a real-time strategy game where you guide a squad of Colonial Space Marines through a Xenomorph outbreak. The setting is top-notch and the perfect kind of atmospheric, so if you're into scary/spooky games, this one is clutch.

It borrows some of the best squad-based tactics from other games of its genre and the AI of your enemies adapts to what you're doing. Some of the technical bugs have been worked out, but some still remain, so tread carefully.

Last up this month is Temtem, which is your Pokémon knockoff for the month. You'll explore the six islands of the Airborne Archipelago. It actually improves on some of the familiar Pokémon mechanics, specifically the combat. It's a little more nuanced, so you will need to pay attention to the Temtem's HP and their stamina pool. Lower-level Temtems can falter after a big attack and that makes overspending their stamina pretty easy, so you'll need to stay on your toes and think a little more tactically.

Since December is the month of PlayStation's 30th anniversary, there are a few other things going on as well. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will be a game trial for PS Plus Premium members. Sony is also updating the Classics Catalogue with Sly 2: Band of Thieves, Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, and Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy later in the month.
