Kill the Turkey: An ode to Bob's Burgers Thanksgiving episodes
As far as holidays go, Thanksgiving is one of the most underrated ones. However, one show always shows some Thanksgiving love and that's Bob's Burgers.
Bob's Burgers has been one of my long-time favorite shows and it's one I've covered on various sites in the past. Frankly, I couldn't think of a show I love more than it and it's one I still watch and cover regularly although not on Culturess.
The one thing I've always been in awe of was the show's holiday episodes but most notably, its Thanksgiving episodes. Thanksgiving has oftentimes been overlooked by the mainstream media and people in general in favor of other holidays such as Halloween and Christmas.
To put it simply, Bob's Burgers has reclaimed Thanksgiving and made it something we can all look forward to. While the series hasn't given us a Thanksgiving episode recently, the series has enough of a Thanksgiving backlog to carry us through at least a few more years.
Bob's Burgers has perfected the art of Thanksgiving episodes.
For those who haven't watched an episode of Bob's Burgers before, you're probably not familiar with the show's format. However, those who have watched any of the holiday episodes should know that Thanksgiving comes with a twist. Thanksgiving is Bob's favorite holiday so usually, things don't go right for him or something he's planning for Thanksgiving.
Regardless, Bob doesn't let anything stand in the way of him having a nice Thanksgiving and he decides to do what he can to make the best of a bad situation. There is truly no character as determined as Bob to ensure he has a nice Thanksgiving. Sometimes, it even comes at the cost of something else such as his sleep in "Turkey in a Can."
Given that Bob is a chef, this love for the holiday makes sense yet the series doesn't focus solely on that. Bob loves Thanksgiving because it's a day off for him and a day for him to relax and enjoy time with his family. Even with Bob cooking the entire Thanksgiving feast, he's able to spend him with Linda and the kids without having to worry about everything going on with the restaurant.
As mentioned though, Thanksgiving is never a break for the Belcher family and things tend to go awry but it's great since it's so relatable. Most of us have a specific Thanksgiving memory that was unfortunate at the time but looking back, is a cherished memory. Even though the Belchers don't age, I can imagine the kids seeing it that same way as they grow older.
Ultimately, the show proves that Thanksgiving is much more than just simply a holiday between Halloween and Christmas. Instead, it's a day for spending time with family, being thankful for what you have, and enjoying some turkey. Even if you don't eat turkey on the big day, you can enjoy Bob doing everything he can to get a turkey on the table.
Thankfully if you want to get a look back at some of the Belcher's best Thanksgiving moments, you can catch them all on Hulu. Now let's all take a deep breath and get ready to sing one of the Thanksgiving songs from Bob's Burgers.
