How Walmart has set itself apart for Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2024
When it comes to Walmart, we know that we are getting amazing deals. However, there is something to be said about the magic of the sales that happen for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
So it likely comes as no surprise that when we found out that Walmart was going all in on their Black Friday sales event, we were a little obsessed. But how exactly did Walmart go all out in 2024?
In their efforts to shake up the way we look at Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales events, they created their Deals of Desire miniseries commercial experience. Instead of doing a normal campaign, where you just find out about some interesting sales, Walmart decided to tap some iconic actors to bring those sales to life in a striking new way.
Walmart created an entire series based on some of the most iconic genres of today. We are talking Regency romance, iconic supernatural drama, and even western suspense. Instead of giving us the usual type of commercial, they reminded us that there is more to Black Friday than just a sale. It is truly an experience.
And we had the opportunity to talk to two of the actors who brought the deals of desire experience to life. Both Walton Goggins and Lisa Rinna shared what it was like to work with Walmart to bring this Black Friday series to life.

Culturess: What made you want to work with Walmart on celebrating these deals?
Walton Goggins: "This company is such a part of American culture and world culture. Now, Walmart really kind of came into my life at the first location in my hometown, which was on Fairview Road when I was in the sixth grade. And so, you know, I grew up kind of shopping there with my family like everybody else.
I've told this story to a couple other outlets on this little press tour, but there was a moment in my life where Walmart stepped in and played a significant role in my education. As it just so happens they didn't know this when they offered me to come on this journey with them, but when I was a senior in high school getting ready to go to college, you know, as I was a poor kid and and my mom did the best that she could. I had the grades, so I was able to get some money there scholastically, and got the pell grant, but there was still a bit of money that we were lacking. And my mom did the research and found out that Walmart was indeed offering a grant for the winner of an essay submitted by a senior in my hometown. It could have been the whole store all I know, it was a store in my hometown, and I wrote an essay and submitted it, and I won. And it made all the difference in my life, especially that first year in college, and so much so that they hung up my first headshot that I had ever taken in my life in the store for the better part of six months. And it was, something that was very important to me.
You know, I don't want to see a commercial for a product anymore. Personally, give me a narrative, and there's a different way of speaking to people. People's expectations have changed over the years. And if you can make them laugh and you can make them cry, and you can sell them something that they want to buy anyway, well then that's when everybody wins. And it's just a great company, and I'm just grateful to be in partnership with them."
Lisa Rinna: "Well, they came to me with this idea, and I just love the idea. I thought it was so clever, it's like a whole storyline, and I loved it. And I was like, I'm in. It sounded really fun. And you get to work with all these different actors that I admire and and have watched their shows, and it was really fun".
Culturess: Are you a Black Friday or a Cyber Monday shopper?
Walton Goggins: "It's changed over time. I mean, I lived in LA for 30 years, and there's not really a Walmart close by to where I was in Los Angeles, even though I grew up with them my hometown. But where I live now, I live in New York, upstate New York. And so I do have one. Chances are I'm going to be on the road. So I don't know that I'll be able to make it in to a store for the Black Friday deal this year, but you can bet I'll get something, and I'm definitely gonna get the boots that I wear in the commercial, and I actually wrote them down. I wore them for two days and I love them, and they're really comfortable, they're really cool."
Lisa Rinna: "I prefer all shopping moments. So I am a both, and I will definitely be shopping on Black Friday. I like a deal like anybody else. Like, I call myself a hunter. I'm like a hunter and a gatherer, and I like a good deal. And it's like, you know, shopping Black Friday, you get these great deals. Though, who doesn't love a deal?"
Considering Walmart is already the home of the deals, we can't help but feel like Black Friday can only make it better. And we love that both Lisa Rinna and Walton Goggins went all in to help promote these deals.
Maybe we really will be doing some holiday shopping with these deals of desire!
