Every reader falls into a reading slump every now and again. But if you've found yourself stuck in a seemingly endless cycle of never finishing books or not being able to start a new one at all, there may be a few things you can try to free yourself from the frustration and get to a place where you can love reading books again.
Reread your favorite book (again)
Comfort reading is still reading, and sometimes all you need to defeat a reading slump is to remind yourself that yes -- you do still enjoy books! Rereading may not feel like it "counts," but if your TBR pile is on the verge of falling over, there's a reason your favorite book could save you (maybe even literally).
Your favorite book is your favorite for a reason. Maybe it's the author, or the genre, or even just the elements of the story itself. Re-familiarize yourself with the parts of your favorite book that stand out to you, and look for a book with similar themes as your next read. You may find you're able to finish it without issue.
Pick up a book YOU want to read
It's tempting to pick up the books that are trending that everyone else says are absolutely worth the hype. But just because a book is all over TikTok doesn't mean it's the book for you -- now or at all. And there's nothing wrong with that.
Instead of trying to read what everyone else is reading, focus instead on choosing books that appeal to your personal interests. You're never going to get out of your reading slump if you only pick up books based on what everyone else says you'll love.
Switch reading formats
Whether you usually gravitate toward audiobooks, ebooks, or good old-fashioned physical books (which all do count as reading, for the record), a reading slump may be a sign that you need to switch -- even temporarily -- to a new format.
Sometimes things feel new and exciting when we're experiencing them in a different way. Simply reading a book on your Kindle or tablet instead of holding it in your hand may be enough to say goodbye to the reading slump you've been stuck in.
