At long last, Grey's Anatomy returns to ABC tonight (March 6) for the second half of Season 21. It's been a long time coming, though breaks on network TV aren't nearly as agonizing as the ones we have to suffer through for most streaming platform shows. But it's not going to be a happy reunion -- and let's be honest; is a Grey's return ever even remotely close to "happy"?
If you need a quick refresher -- spoilers for Season 21, episode 8 "Drop It Like It's Hot" -- we left off on a classic Grey's Anatomy cliffhanger. Jo and Adams have spent most of the episode either hiding during an armed robbery or trying not to panic at gunpoint, and that's where it looks like things are going to pick up. That final gunshot hurt someone -- we just don't know who (yet).
We can infer at this point, based on the above episode trailer, that Jo is in bad shape. She, her babies, or all of the above are in trouble. I'm not going to go on my rant about how pregnant people on this show can't catch a break and really deserve one, but it's probably coming soon (stay tuned).
The trailer also wants us to think that Adams is one of the patients on the table about to succumb to a serious gunshot wound, but we know by now that these trailers are often deceiving on purpose. It could be the shooter. That final struggle at the end of episode 8 was as ambigous as you'd expect from a midseason finale. At Grey's, some things really do never change.
It's likely that someone isn't going to make it out of "Hit the Floor" alive. Meanwhile, Owen looks like he's dangerously close to becoming romantically involved with someone who isn't his wife -- a storyline I wish I'd forgotten about, but here we are.
Season 21 of Grey's Anatomy returns tonight at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT on ABC.
