1. Not Another Love Song by Julie Soto
When thinking of my favorite books of the year, the top spot has to go to Not Another Love Song by Julie Soto. I don't know what Julie Soto puts in her books but every time I read one of her books, I fall in love. This book has the perfect amount of angst, passion, and pining that will have you kicking your feet and ready to scream over how much you love these two.
Not Another Love Song follows Gwen and Xander who have a chance meeting at a wedding but quickly realize that they've been around each other for much longer. From there, these two truly cannot stay away from each other. It's honestly addicting to read about these two and I'm already planning my reread for 2025. I haven't said much but I did gush about this book so that should be reason enough to pick it up.
2. This Could Be Us by Kennedy Ryan
Coming in a very close second is This Could Be Us by Kennedy Ryan. Kennedy Ryan is another author whose books always end up on my favorites list. She just absolutely nails it every single time like this woman cannot write a bad book.
This is the second book in the Skyland series and we're following Soledad who seems to have the perfect life yet everything unravels in a minute. From there, she becomes a single parent, the breadwinner for the house and ends up having to deal with her husband's missteps. While this book focuses a lot on Soledad's growth, we're also watching as she's having a budding romance with the most unlikely of men. If you aren't reading Kennedy Ryan, then you need to fix that in 2025.
3. The Next Best Fling by Gabriella Gamez
Coming in at the #3 spot is The Next Best Fling by Gabriella Gamez. This book was not on my radar until one of my favorite Booktubers talked about it. However, I'm glad I decided to pick it up as it ended up being one of my favorites of the year. If you're looking for a dramatic yet utterly swoony debut romance, then The Next Best Fling is it.
The Next Best Fling follows Marcela and Theo who are in love with their respective best friends that are now engaged. Since they go home together, everyone thinks they're hooking up and they decide to go with it. From there, the attraction between the two is undeniable and I adored seeing them finally get together. Plus that cover is just too hot to deny.
4. Flirty Little Secret by Jessica Lepe
Next up on my list is Flirty Little Secret by Jessica Lepe. If you're a fan of Abbott Elementary, then you're going to love this one. The story follows Lucy, a school counselor, and Fletcher, a fellow teacher at the school she works at. While these two have a meet-disaster, they end up forming an easy friendship with an unlikely You've Got Mail-style twist to boot.
One thing I've noticed about romances is just how realistic they are and Flirty Little Secret falls into that category. Lucy and Fletcher feel like two people you would be friends with who you know are perfect for each other yet can't see it themselves. This book does feature anxiety, depression, and ADHD which ends up playing a big role in the story so that's worth noting. If you can handle it, Flirty Little Secret is a solid 2024 debut.
5. Just For the Summer by Abby Jimenez
Next up is none other than the book that made me love Abby Jimenez and her work: Just for the Summer. If you're craving something you won't be able to put down, then this is it. Just for the Summer follows Emma and Justin who meet after she sees his Reddit post and it's immediately relatable to her. Honestly, it's a little bit funny how things work out in just that way.
Either way, the story follows Emma and Justin as they're navigating a budding relationship, coming to terms with some big life changes and dealing with everything life is handing them. If this book sounds intense, it is yet Abby Jimenez wrote one of the best romances of the year here. Seeing how much these two had to overcome made their romance all the more worthwhile so if you haven't picked this one up, it's a great one to start the year with.
6. Reel by Kennedy Ryan
The final book is another release from Kennedy Ryan and that's Reel. How could I not put two Kennedy Ryan releases on my favorite books of the year list? While this book was republished in 2024, I didn't read Reel when it was originally released so I chose to pick it up and review it and what a time it was.
This is a story with so many different layers as we're following Canon, a famous director who is set on casting the perfect woman in his upcoming biopic. He sees Neevah performing on Broadway and immediately knows she's it. Even though she's an unknown, she gets cast as Desi Blue in the project as we're following not only her story but also Desi's and Canon and Neevah's romance. With some forbidden elements, plenty of chemistry and a captivating story, Reel will have you crying, laughing and smiling in the blink of an eye.
Looking at all of Forever's releases from 2024, there were so many amazing titles and I wanted to showcase an underrated gem. If you haven't picked up Just Playing House by Farah Heron, then you are truly missing out as it's such a fun romance. While there are some heavy topics including surgery and talk of cancer, this one flew under the radar so give it some more love!
