Hunt on Dark Waters is a spellbinding tale from Katee Robert
Everyone loves a steamy romance and no one does it better than Katee Robert. The beloved romance author isn’t afraid to stay in one space, especially with Hunt on Dark Waters.
While Robert is most known for her Dark Olympus and Touch of Taboo series, she’s now going even further. She’s now releasing her pirate romance with Berkley called Hunt on Dark Waters.
This is a dark fantasy romance from Katee Robert and honestly, this is exactly what I hoped she’d always write. She has a knack for building a fun world while also fleshing out her characters and their romance.
I’d like to thank Berkley for sending me a physical ARC of Hunt on Dark Waters by Katee Robert so I can share my thoughts and feelings with you.
Hunt on Dark Waters is a fun and spellbinding pirate romance.
If you’ve read one of Katee Robert’s books before, you have an idea of what to expect yet Hunt on Dark Waters feels different. The story follows Evelyn, a witch who has a drunken night with her ex, Lizzie, a vampire. To get back at Lizzie for kicking her out, Evelyn steals a bag of jewels from her and opens a portal to another world.
Once she gets there, Evelyn lands in the water and is at the mercy of a pirate ship and a pirate captain named Bowen. Immediately, these two have an attraction to each other and it goes from there as Evelyn is trying to escape Lizzie while Bowen is trying to captain a ship that doesn’t respect.
The best way to describe Hunt on Dark Waters is a whirlpool. The story immediately sucks you in and you don’t want to stop reading. The plot moves quickly as Bowen and Lizzie team up to try and outrun Lizzie. In addition, Bowen is learning and unlearning a lot of things about himself and his beliefs.
At its core, this book is about the sizzling and simmering romance between Evelyn and Bowen. From the moment they meet, they’re already poking at each other and can’t seem to stop looking at each other. Of course, they also have some steamy encounters with lots of excellent dirty talking and fun banter.
Hunt on Dark Waters is the first book in Katee Robert’s new Crimson Sails series and it feels like a first book. She established the characters so well, gave us a look at what’s to come, and gave a twist on the classic “captor/captive” trope we all love. I’m a huge Katee Robert fan so there’s no way I wasn’t going to love this one.
The only issue I had was that the story felt a little too convenient at times. Things just fell into place a little too easily. Then again, maybe it’s due to the book’s magic system. Either way, this was another one from Katee Robert and something new to try from her.
