While it’s generally easier to keep track of when the post office will be closed on some of the bigger holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving, the same isn’t always the case for holidays such as Columbus Day.

The holiday is one of many smaller holidays which tend to give some lucky folks a day off from work, but don’t traditionally lead to major closures of too many businesses. However, just because it’s not a holiday that folks are throwing big celebrations on doesn’t mean it’s not still in the same boat as bigger federal holidays which can cause disruptions for those in need of making trips to certain federally operated businesses.

In fact, it’s likely the mystery surrounding the U.S. Postal Service office hours for Monday, Oct. 9 that brought you here today. So let’s not waste any time and dive right on into the burning question on your mind: Is the post office open on Monday?

Is there mail delivery on October 9, 2023?

Because Columbus Day is a federal holiday, the U.S. Postal Service will not be open on Monday, Oct. 9, 2023, as the post office does not do business on federal holidays. As such, local U.S. Postal Service branches will be closed for the day in observance of the holiday.

As the U.S. Postal Service does not do business on federal holidays and is not open for the holiday, there will be no regular mail delivery on Columbus Day. In other words, no need to head out to check your mailbox on Oct. 9 as no mail will be delivered due to the holiday.

There will, however, be Priority Mail Express delivery as the service is said to operate 365 days of the year. You can also turn to self-service kiosks which are also expected to remain open for the Columbus Day holiday, though it doesn’t hurt to check the U.S. Postal Service locator for complete location and service information.
