Historical romance is such a vast genre with lots of different pairings, periods, and tropes including A Nobleman’s Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel by K.J. Charles.

While Charles has written a lot of books, her focus is on queer historical. You might recognize book 1 in this series which was The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen. In that book, we followed Gareth and Joss’ romance.

This time, we’re fast-forwarding a few years and getting to see Luke Doomsday’s book. If you’ve read Book 1, you’ll know what happened to Luke and it was in a word: traumatic. That’s why I was so excited to see him get his own story.

Before getting into my thoughts, I’d like to thank Sourcebooks Casablanca for sending me a copy to read and review for you.

A Nobleman’s Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel is a fun and fresh historical.

Let me just start by saying that this is one of those series you need to read in order. The series is also called The Doomsday Books so you need the context from book 1. With that particular note out of the way, let’s get into what A Nobleman’s Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel is about.

This book follows one of the youngest Doomsday children: Luke. We find out that Luke’s mother could have been married to a d’Amuesty which would make Luke an Earl but there’s only one problem. Rufus is already named the Earl and has his meddlesome family, trying to undermine him at every turn.

Of course, Luke and Rufus team up to try and solve the mystery of who is the Earl and to get Rufus’ family off his back. In the meantime, the two begin to fall for each other and K.J. Charles does not disappoint when it comes to the steamy scenes between these two. They can’t keep their hands off of each other.

While it did take me some time to get into this book, I eventually fell into the story and couldn’t put it down. Either way, the external plot with Luke was a surprise and honestly, I enjoyed how everything played out and how it all connected. I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first book, but Luke is such a sweet bean so he deserved to have his story told.

If you’re looking for some queer historical romances, then I don’t think you can go wrong with A Nobleman’s Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel. Plus if you’ve read Book 1, you’ll want to know Luke’s story so I think you’ll be happy. Given all the hype around the release of Red, White & Royal Blue, I think a lot of readers will be on the lookout for more m/m romance books.

Ultimately though, A Nobleman’s Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel isn’t my favorite K.J. Charles but I’m hopeful we’ll be getting a third book. I’d love to see a book between Emily and Rufus’ cousin: Berengaria. If not, I’m excited to read what else KJ Charles has come out in the future.

A Nobleman’s Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel by K.J. Charles is out now where books are sold.
