2. “Cardigan”

Coming in at the middle of the list is “Cardigan.” This was the lead single from Folklore and was such a huge turning point for Taylor Swift. In a way, it felt like the start of an entirely new chapter for her and honestly, an entirely new aesthetic to match.

As with all of the songs on the album, “Cardigan” is written so beautifully and talks so openly about a relationship while also not revealing much. In listening to the song, you learn so much about the album and it gives a picture of what is such an understated yet lovely album from Swift.

Plus it also started the trend of Taylor releasing cardigans for her fans so what’s not to love about this song? It’s written so beautifully, had an amazing music video, and was the perfect single to start off Folklore with.

1. “Betty”

Taylor Swift started as a country artist and we all know it yet it doesn’t feel like we see as much love for her country songs. However, “Betty” feels like a country song through and through yet in a modernized way only Swift can pull off.

“Betty” once again kills it with the lyrics but is a great story song by Swift. She tells such a compelling story of young love and what could have been yet we don’t know the answer. I know there are many fan theories about this song, what it means, and how to interpret it which proves why it’s such a winner.

“Betty” created such a rich conversation while still being a good song, showing some love to Taylor’s country roots and even paying homage to some of Taylor’s famous friends. What’s not to love about this song? Plus she swears which we rarely see in her music. “Betty” has always been my favorite song from Folklore and I doubt that’s going to change.
