What’s new in August 2023 for Xbox Games with Gold members
Xbox Games with Gold subscribers have one final month of this subscription service before it folds into the lowest tier of Game Pass. Honestly, it’s only been a matter of time for this to happen, so no one is really that surprised.
Below are your free games for August:
- Blue Fire
- Inertial Drift
Since this offering goes away starting September 1st, both games are only available for August rather than having one extending halfway through the following month.
First up is Blue Fire, a 3D platformer that looks like it has combat and dungeons drawing inspiration from The Legend of Zelda. It resembles Hollow Knight a bit, too, so if you’re a fan of that game, this is right up your alley.
The key to this game is your movement, and you’ll spend a lot of your time leveling up your different abilities. Honestly, it really feels like Hollow Knight’s movement, just in a 3D space. And while the story falters a bit with its pacing, the overall gameplay is still too good to give up.
Inertial Drift is an arcade racer and the core of its game is its movement. The twin drift stick is tricky to grasp at first, but once it clicks, you’ll never want to play an arcade racer any other way.
The game takes place in a futuristic 90s world with 16 different racers on 20 different tracks and the graphics are cartoonily gorgeous and are the perfect aesthetic for this “throwback” of a game.
In our opinion, these are actually pretty decent games to end this offering on. The Games with Gold service comes to an end on September 1; however, you’ll still have access to any Games with Gold games that you’ve previously redeemed when your subscription swaps to a Game Pass Core tier.
For the last time, your July free game of When The Past Was Around is available to download until August 15.
