PlayStation Plus Essential tier members are in for an eclectic month of free games. You have three great games to download this month that will eat up plenty of time. With Microsoft’s announcement about the end of Xbox Games with Gold, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Sony’s still coming out swinging hard.

Below are your free games for August for the Essential tier:

  • PGA Tour 2K23
  • Dreams
  • Death’s Door

First up is PGA Tour 2K23, which is your standard 2K golf game. The swing mechanics in this iteration are some of the best of the series (and it doesn’t matter if you’re using the three-click system or the analog stick). This is also the first time in the series that you can play as a female pro player. And one of the coolest features is how robust its course creator is. There are thousands of user-created courses that you can play.

Dreams is a game creation system where players can make… pretty much anything they want. Action platformer? Racer? FPS? Cozy gaming? You can access it all and create things yourself. While developer Media Molecule has announced that updates for the game will end on September 1st, they are giving you access to their newest creation, Tren.

Tren is a puzzle platformer where you explore as a toy train set. Sony called it a “nostalgic adventure” and that the game tells a personal tale of growing up and how the power of play can be transformative. The game offers real physics so you have to be careful for some of the tougher puzzles. But it’s worth it to check out for sure.

Last up is Death’s Door, which was one of the best indie games of 2021. It’s an isometric action game starring a crow with a sword (not to be confused with Squirrel with a Gun) where you have to claim the lives of three powerful souls and use them to open the titled door. The world is mysterious and beautiful.

The game is a great blend of The Legend of Zelda and any Dark Souls game, though it’s a bit kinder than a Souls game. If you haven’t given it a shot before this free opportunity, download it now and give it a try!

Next. Xbox is finally phasing out Games with Gold for Game Pass Core. dark

Your three August games will be available to download beginning on Tuesday, August 1st.
