Fourth of July weekend has arrived and if you’ve made it to this page, you’re likely wondering if the stock market will be open today or if the holiday might cause its closure.

It’s an understandable question to have. After all, unlike other big holidays, many businesses do not close their doors for the Fourth of July. As such, it can be hard to keep track of just what the holiday affects and whether The New York Stock Exchange and The Standard recognize the holiday as one of the handfuls of holidays in which they do not operate.

While The New York Stock Exchange and The Standard typically remain open on most holidays, the Fourth of July is one of the few holidays that trades are not processed and the stock market close.

In total, there are ten holidays that The New York Stock Exchange and The Standard close for and do not maintain normal business hours on. These include Memorial Day, New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, President’s Day, Good Friday, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas.

Is the stock market open on July 5, 2023?

The New York Stock Exchange and The Standard will both reopen on Wednesday, July 5, and should be open during usual hours of operation, those hours being 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern time. So if you’re someone who pays close attention to the market, know you can resume your usual activities then.
