As the Fourth of July falls on a Monday this year, many of us get to kick back and enjoy the holiday without the stress of work. It also means that many businesses are closed for the holiday which can make it difficult to determine who will or won’t be open on the holiday including the post office.

While it’s generally easier to keep track of when the post office will be closed on some of the bigger holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving, the same isn’t always the case for holidays such as the Fourth of July.

In fact, it’s likely the mystery surrounding the U.S. Postal Service office hours for July 4 that brought you here today. So let’s not waste any time and dive right into the burning question on your mind: is the post office open on the Fourth of July?

Are post offices closed on on July 4, 2023?

Because Independence Day is a federal holiday, the U.S. Postal Service will not be open on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, as the post office does not do business on federal holidays. As such, local U.S. Postal Service branches will be closed for the day in observance of the holiday.

Will mail and package delivery run on July 4, 2023?

Because the U.S. Postal Service does not do business on federal holidays and is not open for the holiday, there will be no regular mail delivery on the Fourth of July. In other words, no need to head out to check your mailbox on July 4.

There will, however, be Priority Mail Express delivery as the service is said to operate all 365 days of the year. You can also turn to self-service kiosks which are also expected to remain open for the Fourth of July holiday, though it doesn’t hurt to check the U.S. Postal Service locator for complete location and service information.

Is UPS closed on July 4, 2023?

Like the post office, UPS Store locations will be closed on July 4 for the holiday. In addition to closing UPS stores, the brand’s website notes that there will be no UPS pickup or delivery service on July 4, 2023, but UPS Express Critical service will remain available.

Is FedEx open on July 4, 2023?

There will be no FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Home Delivery, FedEx Ground Economy, or FedEx Freight delivery services running on July 4 as FedEx closes for the holiday. FedEx Custom Critical will still be available and FedEx Offices are said to have modified hours, so there is a slim chance your local branch could have hours of operation on July 4. Our recommendation would be to call your nearest FedEx ahead of time to confirm their store hours for July 4.

Is the post office closed on July 5, 2022
