Blige is back as she serves as executive producer on Lifetime movies Mary J. Blige’s Real Love and Mary J. Blige’s Strength of a Woman. Both films are apart of a double feature premiere on the network and feature. The movies are both inspired by some of Blige’s biggest hits of the same names so Blige fans should be excited to see how her music has has made its way to influence storytelling through film.

Blige serves as an executive producer on both films through her production banner, Blue Butterfly. Q. Nicole Jackson and Ashaunna K. Ayars are attached to both projects as co-producers. Director Camrus Johnson and screenwriter Sonja Warfield and Rachel Ingram joined forces to make Real Love while Shari Lynette Carpenter directed Strength of a Woman from a script written by Ingram.

Both movies are being led by Ajiona Alexus (Empire13 Reasons Why) and Da’Vinchi (BMF, All American) alongside Princess Davis, Marci T. House, Shiraine Haas, Austin Anozie, and Garfield Wilson.

In Real Love, we are introduced to 18-year-old Kendra (Alexus) as she sets off on her own for the first time at an HBCU in North Carolina. As she attends the school on a scholarship, she also has to balance work study and keeping things professional with Ben (Da’Vinchi), her photo class partner. Kendra and Ben have to see how to define the relationship as they deal with disapproving parents, financial hardship, and even an unexpected pregnancy. Kendra realizes that in order to pursue her dreams, she has to leave Ben behind, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s completely over between the pair as they navigate to find their version of “Real Love”.

In Strength of a Woman, which jumps 15 years ahead of the events happening in the first film. Kendra has now become a successful photographer but is still finds herself in a failing marriage and must reckon with the decisions she made for the life she thought she wanted. When Ben (Da’Vinchi) unexpectedly comes back into her life, she is forced to a crisis point and must dig deep to find the strength to take control of her life and accept the love Ben may be offering again.
