PlayStation Plus offerings for subscribers on the Essential tier have been relatively quiet over the last few months. However, June looks to be picking up a bit of steam, especially if you’re a fan of the NBA.

Also, PlayStation’s upcoming Days of Play sale kicks off on June 2nd and includes 25% off an annual membership. The sale lasts until June 12th, so get ready!

Here are your free games for June for the Essential tier:

  • NBA 2K23
  • Jurassic World Evolution 2
  • Trek to Yomi

First up is NBA 2K23, which is your standard 2K sports game. The developers made some good improvements regarding the on-court gameplay for 2K23, but what might be the coolest new mode is The Jordan Challenge. You can play 15 iconic moments from Michael Jordan’s legendary career and it might be worth downloading NBA 2K23 just to play through this new feature. You’ll also get access to the monthly MyTEAM packs in-game, which is nice.

Next up is Jurassic World Evolution 2, which is set after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. This is your management sim for the month, and if you’re a fan of these kinds of games and you like Jurassic Park, you will be in heaven for this one.

You have your choice of various modes to play. The campaign mode even includes Jeff Goldblum, but you also have a sandbox mode and a challenge mode to see if your managing skills are up to snuff. You’ll be surprised how many hours you can blow through playing this game.

Last for June is Trek to Yomi, a side-scrolling action game reminiscent of a Kurosawa film and absolutely gorgeous.  Released in 2022, you play as Hiroki, a swordsman, who embarks on a quest for vengeance when his village is destroyed. It leads him to Yomi, the Japanese underworld, where he has to confront the evils of his past.

The combat can get a little repetitive, especially because it stays fairly simplistic, but when it only takes about 12 hours to complete the game, that’s not a terrible complaint. Especially with how beautiful the visuals are. It’s a perfect homage to the samurai movies of the 20th century.
