12 non-romance book releases coming in June 2023
In June, everyone is looking for the perfect book for the beach or just to take on vacation with you. Thankfully for all my non-romance readers, I have lots of exciting June releases to share.
As with my other list, all of my picks are going to be fiction. That’s not to say there won’t be some books based on famous historical figures or events. Instead, these books are taking some liberties that others might not.
Additionally, some books are just plain fun or are here to make you question things which is one of the best parts of being a reader. While romance isn’t the main focus of the books, I can’t say that they don’t feature romance within their pages yet romance isn’t the central part of the plot.
If you’re looking for something new to add to your beach bag, need a vacation read, or just want something that isn’t a romance to read this June, this list has you covered.
Need a new book for June? We’ve got all genres within this list of releases.
Let me start with the book I’m most excited about and that’s Don’t Forget The Girl by Rebecca McKanna. This is a true-crime fiction, following two friends whose other friend is murdered and it’s essentially following some of the past and present as her murderer is about to be executed so it’s become a huge case within the true crime world. This one releases on June 20th, 2023.
Moving onto some historical fiction picks, there are The First Ladies by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray. This book follows the friendship between Mary McLeod Bethune and Eleanor Roosevelt. Honestly, I’ve never even heard of this friendship and it seems like it could be the ideal beach read. It comes out on June 27th, 2023.
Another historical pick for June is The Radcliffe Ladies’ Reading Club by Julia Bryan Thomas which is set in the 1950s and is a book about books. This time though, it follows a group of women who find comfort in a local bookstore. This one is set for release on June 6, 2023. Another historical read coming out in June is House of Lincoln by Nancy Horan which is Lincoln’s story but told from an immigrant worker’s perspective. This one is also set for release on June 6th, 2023.
Last but certainly not least for historical reads is The Cherokee Rose by Tiya Miles. This one is set for release on June 13th and follows three women, all looking to cover their separate truths and stories yet it ends up becoming a story about much more. Mixing past and present, this one is sure to be in many beach bags this summer.
Moving away from historical reads, How To Be Remembered by Michael Thompson is coming out on June 27th which follows Tommy who is forgotten every year on his birthday. I don’t know about you, but that concept sounds amazing to me. There is something so fascinating about books that explore that topic and this is a debut to boot.
If you’re looking for something a bit scary, two young adult horror novels are coming out which are The Wicked Unseen by Gigi Griffis and Starlings by Amanda Linsmeier. The Wicked Unseen is about Audre who doesn’t fit in with her love of horror yet when her crush goes missing, she tries to unravel things in her town. That one is set for release on June 20th. As for Starlings, this is a new horror and it follows Kit who is sent to live with her grandmother after losing her father and things start to get unsettling from there. Starlings also release on June 27th, 2023.
Keeping with the YA horror theme, I’d be remiss to not include The Crooked Mark by Linda Kao. It follows Matthew as he’s looking for people who are “marked” by the devil and it goes from there for him. Honestly, this one sounds cool and has such a gorgeous cover that I couldn’t stop looking at it. The Crooked Mark is coming out on June 20th, 2023.
If you’re looking for a thriller, Riley Sager’s latest is coming out on June 20th which is The Only One Left. Sager is incredibly popular and it’s a thriller so I don’t want to say much more but I’m excited. Another anticipated June read for me is Lore Olympus Volume 4 which is coming out on June 6th and it follows Hades and Persephone’s romance but also them as people so I’m counting it.
Last but certainly not least, the final book I’m featuring is The Surviving Sky by Kritika H. Rao which is a fantasy story but also a marriage-in-trouble story. This one is not a romance but rather it focuses on them trying to save the world while also having trouble in their marriage. I don’t know about you, but that sounds so interesting and unlike anything I’ve read before. The Surviving Sky is set for release on June 20th.
