Memorial Day 2023: Are banks closed on Memorial Day?
By Cody Schultz
As Memorial Day falls on a Monday, many of us get to kick back and enjoy the holiday without the stress of work. It also means that many businesses are closed for the holiday which can make it difficult to determine who will or won’t be open on the holiday including the banks.
Keeping track of when banks will be closed is usually straightforward for major holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving. However, it can be more challenging to know when banks will be closed on holidays like Memorial Day.
It’s understandable that you may be uncertain about banking hours on Memorial Day, which is likely why you’re here today. So let’s get right to the point: are banks open on Memorial Day?
Are banks open Memorial Day? (2023)
If you were hoping to visit your local bank on Memorial Day, we have some unfortunate news for you. Similar to the post office, banks will be closed on federal holidays and will not operate during their regular business hours. This means that you will have to wait until the next business day to take care of any banking needs you may have.
Although most banks will be closed on Memorial Day, there is some good news. You can still use mobile banking apps for select services, and ATMs will remain open for the holiday, allowing you to make certain transactions. This means that you can still access your funds and take care of some banking needs, even though the bank itself is closed. It’s important to check with your bank to see which services are available through their mobile app and which transactions can be made at ATMs.
We will add, if you bank at a locally owned bank rather than a chain such as Chase or Fifth Third, it might not hurt to call as they might be operating on limited hours for the holiday instead of closing their doors entirely.
