Vanessa Morgan Discusses Her Collaboration With Cupshe
Vanessa Morgan’s latest business venture highlights her love for her son, River, and fashion through a collaboration with Cupshe. She is striving to introduce a line of affordable clothing for mothers and their children, with the collection dedicated to a focus on swimwear. Vanessa Morgan discusses her excitement about the collection and what fans can look forward to. She also highlights how being a mother has impacted the way she looks into other business opportunities, such as her work with Cupshe, as well as how it impacts her search for acting roles.
With Riverdale airing its final season, Vanessa Morgan also discusses the show’s jump to the 1950s and her feelings on re-discovering Toni’s storyline and rebuilding her romance with Cheryl.
Culturess: How do you feel about taking Riverdale back to the 1950s?
Vanessa Morgan: I feel great about it. I love the style of the 1950s. I love how I get to almost replay the Toni Topaz of season two, which is meeting everybody for the first time and playing seventeen again. It’s been really fun.
Culturess: What do you think is different about Toni compared to who she was in comparison to who she was before going back to the 1950s, and what do you think is the most similar?
Vanessa Morgan: I think she’s very similar. I honestly think she’s the most herself in this time period than she’s been since season two. So I really like that. Everything is the same minus our outfits and really what’s going on with civil rights movements and stuff like that. But everything else, she’s pretty much the exact same.
Culturess: What inspired your collaboration with Cupshe?
Vanessa Morgan: My love for fashion as well as my love for matching with my son, River. I absolutely love wearing outfits with him that match, and it’s kind of hard to find that, especially being a boy mom. There’s a lot of stuff for mommy and matching with girls and not as much with boys, and we love to swim. It’s our favorite activity to do in this house. He loves swimming so swim, swimsuits and swim apparel was right up our alley, and it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do. So, that was the inspiration. River was my inspo for it, and the collab, we really tried to make it like a nature and nature vibe for the swimsuits.
Culturess: What part of the River Collection are you most excited about?
Vanessa Morgan: I’m most excited about River and I’s matching bathing suits. They’re so cute. They’re baby blue because blue’s my favorite color, and it’s the color of River’s eyes, and they just have leaves and flowers on them, and they’re so cute, and I just really think people will love them.
Culturess: What was the most important part to you about taking on this venture?
Vanessa Morgan: I think the most important part to me was just making a collab of bathing suits that are for every type of body shape. Whether or not you’re a mom, whether or not you are, then if you’re post-partum or not, I think every single woman can find a piece that fits their body perfectly, and for those who are moms, being able to have outfits that match your little one is so cute. So, that’s what I really think people will love about this collection.
Culturess: How do you balance all of your work and being a mother?
Vanessa Morgan: I think it’s just staying in the present moment and not getting overwhelmed with stress. I know it’s super hard to do. I do have a lot of great help while I’m working that really helps me. But, I do think just staying present and not getting overwhelmed. Taking those little bits of time for myself and being super present with my son when I’m with him, that is what really helps me be able to balance everything.
Culturess: How did you manage your time working with Cupshe and working on Riverdale?
Vanessa Morgan: It was a lot. I had to book time off work. I had to get it approved. I had to fly out for a weekend. Quickly get it done and fly right back. I really honestly, the past two weeks, I’ve worked every single day for the past two and a half weeks, and I’m running on barely any sleep. But that’s mom life. That’s working mom life.
Culturess: Has being a mother impacted your choices in acting roles that you are interested in or business ventures?
Vanessa Morgan: For sure, it has. I mean, for example, this business venture, I never before would have been interested in doing a mommy and me line until I had a kid. Now that I’m a mom, it’s like, ‘Oh, I wanna match my kid. What would he want to wear? Oh my God, those bathing suits are so cute. I wanna make that.’
Also, with roles, now when I see roles that are mothers or pregnant women, I really gravitate toward those roles as well, which I probably wouldn’t have before.
Culturess: What has excited you the most about your son’s milestones? Which ones are you looking forward to?
Vanessa Morgan: Just him talking right now. He’s really starting to put sentences together. Those have been some amazing milestones. I asked him, ‘What did he do today?’ and he’s able to put together sentences where I understand what he did today. I find it so mindblowing. It’s crazy, and I’m just excited for more of that. The communication and him telling me stories and what he’s seeing in the world. I’m just really excited for that.
Culturess: With summer coming up, what are you most looking forward to experiencing with your son?
Vanessa Morgan: Lots of swimming. I live by the beach. We’re going to be doing, especially having all the matching outfits now, lots of beach days. I’m gonna teach him how to ride a bike this summer. I also wanna do a lot of traveling and see my nieces and my brother as well back in my hometown, so I’m just excited to relax and enjoy summer.
Culturess: What are your favorite styles and beauty routines for summers at the beach?
Vanessa Morgan: I love swimming in the ocean, and because I live beside the ocean, the salt water I feel like is the best for your skin. I honestly try to splash my face every day with ocean water. Other than that, just staying moisturized. Exfoliating and moisturizing is the best thing you can do skin-care-wise, I think, in the summer.
Culturess: What are you most excited about for Mother’s Day?
Vanessa Morgan: For Mother’s Day, I’m excited about the fact that the launch with the River Collection; we did that on purpose with Mother’s Day. Just being able to celebrate. My mom’s in town. I’m not working that day, so I think we’re just gonna go have a nice little brunch all together, and it’ll be really nice.
Culturess: As far as your collaboration with Cupshe goes, what can tell your fans that they can get excited about and look out for?
Vanessa Morgan: Just a lot of really pretty pieces, and for the moms, a lot of really cute sets that they’ll be matching with their little one. I’d say that’s what they can look forward to, a really beautiful collection.
Culturess: With this being the final season of Riverdale, what can you tease about upcoming storylines?
Vanessa Morgan: I don’t know if there’s anything I can tease because I don’t really know. I don’t know what the storylines are gonna be. I know a lot of fans at the convention I just did in Germany asked me, ‘Is there gonna be more Choni?’ which is Toni’s relationship with Cheryl, and there definitely is. I can tease that it’s very Choni-heavy this season, so that’s the only thing I can really say.
Culturess: What is the most exciting thing to you about Toni and Cheryl’s relationship this season?
Vanessa Morgan: I just love how it’s like how it was in season two. That’s what people loved about it. That slow build-up of Cheryl on her journey of coming out. Toni being there for her and telling her that she’s been there and that relationship budding and that first kiss that just happened in the last episode. It’s just been following the steps of season two, and I love ending the way we started.
