2. “The Story Of Us”

If there’s one song off this album that makes me feral, it’s “The Story Of Us.” I feel like Speak Now has so many hidden gems and one is “The Story Of Us.” Despite being single, this song feels like so much more than that. It’s an anthem for those of us, going through a breakup and dealing with the aftermath.

I enjoy how she goes through every single “chapter” of their story and eventually, her realizing that the story wasn’t meant to have a happy ending. This one has a great music video and the lyrics are just amazing especially: “I’ve never heard silence/quite this loud.” I feel like anyone who has been somewhere and had to interact with their ex or had an awkward situation can relate to this one.

To me, “The Story Of Us” is such a fun song and is one that I don’t think is appreciated enough so I had to feature it as #2 on my list. It was a toss-up between this one and my #1 pick but ultimately, this one ended up in second place. Speaking of that, let’s move on to my #1 pick from Taylor Swift’s Speak Now Era.

1. “Back to December”

My #1 single from the Speak Now era is easy “Back to December.” I don’t know how people listen to this song and don’t immediately love it. There is something so raw and open, listening to Taylor discuss this amazing relationship that ended up not working out.

It’s so sad and at times, melancholic yet utterly relatable. A lot of us have made mistakes in relationships and reminiscing on them and realizing we can do better is all we can do. Even though we all know who this song was inspired by, I still think it’s such a sweet song that tugs on your heartstrings.

Even though people tend to say Taylor Swift only writes about relationships, I feel like this one completely dispels that. She’s writing so openly and candidly about losing a chance at love by her fault. I feel like I could wax poetic about “Back To December” but if you’ve heard this song, you know.
