Trying out a new author isn’t an easy thing yet Sandra Kitt made it feel effortless. Her newest release, The Time of Your Life is exactly the kind of romance you need in your life.

While I’ve heard of Sandra Kitt, I had yet to read anything from her. When I was pitched the book and eventually sent the ARC by Sourcebooks Casablanca, I was more than excited for a few reasons. Firstly, the cover for The Time Of Your Life is gorgeous.

Secondly, I’d been looking for another pioneer in the Black romance genre. To me, there are so many beloved Black romance authors who paved the way and Sandra Kitt is one of them. That’s why this one was quick to go on my list of must-reads for April.

Lastly, this book is pitched as a romance but I knew it’d be much different than some of the other romances I’d been consuming lately. Regardless, I was dying to finally pick this one up so I’m excited to share.

The Time of Your Life by Sandra Kitt is an undeniable showstopper.

Before getting into this review, I’d be remiss to not mention that The Time Of Your Life is the second book in Sandra Kitt’s The Millionaires Club series. While we do the characters from the first book, this is a standalone series so you don’t have to read one before reading the other.

As evidenced by the series title, the story follows Eden and Beck who are both gifted some money from Everett, a man who impacted both of their lives.  Both are obviously extremely shocked by Everett’s kindness but decide to make the best of his gift. Eden, she’s trying to graduate from law school and eventually become a lawyer while Beck is a journalist who is trying to make decisions about his stepfather’s estate.

Honestly, I adored this book because these two characters felt so real to me. I could actually picture Eden and Beck walking around DC together or seeing them out on a date. They were dealing with real problems in addition to getting all the money they did. It was honestly so refreshing to see the two dealing with something other than each other.

Aside from how incredibly well-written the characters were, seeing their romance slowly develop was so satisfying. Eden and Beck had busy lives, but they made each other a priority. It was a slow build but once these two kissed, sparks flew. I’m not even kidding, I couldn’t put this book down after the relationship started.

My favorite thing about The Time Of Your Life was easily the writing. I am smacking myself for not reading anything from Sandra Kitt either. Her writing style is just gorgeous. I couldn’t stop reading once I started. From the way she described the characters, their romance, and everything they had going on, it was game over for me.

As much as I loved and adored this book, I will say that I have a small complaint but it’s more of a personal preference. I do think the chapters were a bit long. I think I’d only read 5 chapters and was 90 pages which felt strange. Either way, it didn’t hamper my enjoyment of the story but it was worth nothing.

All in all, I feel like The Time of Your Life is going to be such an under-the-radar romance for 2023 and I want more people to pick it up. The cover is gorgeous. The characters are a delight and their romance is everything you didn’t know you needed. If you’re looking for an amazing spring read, then this needs to be on your TBR.
